Days after with little to no aid coming in, some victims of typhoon Yolanda are choosing to leave their homes. They think it’s a better chance to survive

As government and international groups scramble to bring relief goods and aid, worried family members find their own ways to save their loved ones.
Benilda Carpeso and 9 others who call Marabot their hometown shelled out 24,000 pesos to bring 18 town mates, including 3-week-old twins Andre and Andrew to Manila.

(We used our budget so that we could come here because there’s really nothing left to live on. Our livelihood there are coconuts and fishing but now there’s nothing left. If we stay there, we’ll go hungry.)

(It’s difficult especially since I have a baby. We survived but of course, there’s no food. Sometimes the baby breastfeeds but cries because the milk isn’t enough.)

That’s why Benilda, who relies on her husband’s income, says it’s a price they’re willing to pay for their piece of mind.
