MANILA, Philippines – What goes on inside an athlete’s head before they step onto the playing field?

The audio products company Beats by Dre gives us a glimpse of the psyche of football players putting their game face on as the 2014 World Cup draws close. Aptly, they call it ‘The Game Before the Game.’

The video features football players Neymar Jr. from Brazil, Cesc Fabregas from Spain, Luis Suarez from Urugay, and Javier Hernandez from Mexico among others. Here they show the face they wear during their sacred pre-game rituals – when they prep themselves like it’s last game of their lives. Elsewhere in the world, fans are shown getting ready to play the role of supporter, wearing their team’s colors with pride.

Athletes and personalities LeBron James, Nicki Minaj and Serena Williams also make an appearance, adding that much more suspense to the World Cup in Brazil. (READ: Brazil races to finish World Cup opener arena)

The time and space right before a game is when every athlete is equal: every one of is prey to their own mind. The game before their game can make or break each and every one of them.
