PUEBLA, Mexico – A mob angry over the murder of a shopkeeper in central Mexico set fire to a town hall, the mayor’s residence and police cars on Tuesday, November 5, authorities said.

The attack in the state of Puebla came three days after a similar assault on municipal offices by residents angry over a killing in another central Mexico town.

Hours after a shopkeeper was shot dead in the town of Guadalupe Victoria, the mayor fled with his family as residents took out their anger on his office and home as well as four police cars.

The Puebla state public safety agency said the shopkeeper was shot in the head during a robbery in the town of 17,000 people.

The agency added in a statement that it would pursue those responsible for the murder as well as those who set fire to the mayor’s home and office.

A resident told local radio that people decided to attack the town hall because they were “fed up” with the lack of security in the town.

On Saturday, November 2, residents of the town of Huehuetoca, in the state of Mexico, set the municipal building on fire after they accused a police officer of killing a teenager. – Rappler.com
