Watchdoc, a production company in Indonesia, is one of the five Ramon Magsaysay awardees in 2021. They were given the award for emergent leadership and for using journalism and filmmaking to give voice to the people.

Established in 2011, Watchdoc has since produced and distributed over 150 film titles that average 200,000 views per video. Eight of its documentaries have attracted more than a million views.

Their work tackles issues of public concern that haven’t been covered adequately in mainstream media. In order to reach more people, Watchdoc distributes their films through social media and offline channels, and partners with nongovernmental organizations to hold screenings in remote communities.
