We list some interesting recommendations from food bloggers that you might want to check out this weekend

JAKARTA, Indonesia – “Where are we going to eat?” must be one of the most asked questions in any city, and Jakarta has a wealth of food blogs that help answer that. Here, we present 3 of the interesting recommendations we’ve seen that might be worth checking out this weekend.

1. Locanda Food Voyager

Several food blogs are raving about this Italian and Thai restaurant and wine bar in the Senayan area of South Jakarta, where Tony Roma’s used to be. Thai and Italian cuisine might not be a combination that easily makes sense, but bloggers are loving their food.

Mullie Marlina of myfunfooddiary.com was hooked on the classic Tom Yum soup (IDR65k). “Spicy and sour prawn soup at its best! A must try!”

The Kai Pad Prik Klea (IDR60k) was also a frequent favorite, with Eddy Suryadi of www.eshtravaganza.com saying it was so good and perfect it left him speechless.

On the Italian side, the White Truffle Pizza (IDR85k) is “out of this world”, according to Cindy Lulaby.

2. Woodpecker Coffee

From the same people behind Common House, this relatively new coffee shop on Panglima Polim in South Jakarta is getting a lot of pretty good reviews from food bloggers. Aside from the place’s attractive minimalist decor, it gets top marks for affordability: The coffee ranges from IDR15 to IDR27k, and waffles start from IDR15k.

AFFOGATO. Bold and thick coffee that's perfect with ice cream, says blogger Daisy. For just IDR30k, they weren’t stingy on the strawberries, she added.

And the coffee? “From all that I tried, I concluded that I like their coffee. It was strong and tasty, without being so harsh on the throat, and had the medium thickness that I enjoy so much. The coffee was aromatic and gave a soothing and calming effect, which made me want to have another shot,” Daisy Caroline from The Food Escape blog wrote.

3. Drinks at Hospitalis Restaurant and Bar

Themed restaurants aren’t new but this one seems to take it to a whole different level. The hospital-themed restaurant in Kebayoran Baru serves dishes like Beef Gingivitis (Beef cha siu with Japanese sweet sauce for IDR35k) and Potato Hysterectomy (French fries with spicy cajun sauce for IDR21k). You can also order a Colonoscopy for IDR100k and a Lobotomy for IDR80k (they’re cocktails).

BLOOD TRANSFUSION. Blogger Daisy Caroline recommends this Mexican Blood Transfusion drink. Photo courtesy of www.thefoodescape.comIt’s not clear, though, if the food here will cure you or make you sick. Blogger AnakJajan says “dining inside a restaurant with hospital interior and equipment was absolutely a new experience” but gave mixed reviews about the food.

The place received better reviews for its drinks. Daisy raved on The Food Escape about the tequila-based cocktail Mexican Blood Transfusion (cheap at IDR76k she says), and the Local Anesthetic drink (orange juice, pineapple juice, strawberry juice in a syringe, with fruity caviar for IDR 40K).
