Jokowi’s son to marry local beauty queen – reports

JAKARTA, Indonesia – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, has apparently found himself a bride: Selvi Ananda, a 26-year-old local beauty queen from the first family’s hometown of Solo. 

The president and the first lady reportedly went to Selvi’s house to formally ask for her hand during a low-key visit to Solo over the 3-day holiday weekend, according to local media reports on Tuesday, April 7.

It seems the couple have been together for a while. The image below showing Gibran and Selvi together was tweeted on October 21, 2014 – the day after Jokowi’s inauguration – by user Arey Angga, who refers to Selvi as a sister in his tweets.

The president wanted to keep everything low key, but Solo Mayor FX Hadi Rudyatmo eventually confirmed the news. 

“Yes, Pak Jokowi will have an in-law,” the mayor was quoted by Detik.com as saying. 

He said he was told the wedding would take place in June, but he didn’t know the exact date. 

Gibran, 27, is a successful entrepreneur in Solo. He set up Chili Pari catering in 2010 when he was just 22, shortly after completing studies in Singapore and Sydney. According to the company website, Gibran set out to make it on his own, shunning the family furniture business and refusing financial support from his parents. 

He’s also the more media shy among Jokowi’s children, and even got irritated with journalists who questioned why he wasn’t more visible during the presidential campaign. 

Media reports state Selvi was crowned Putri Solo in 2009, a city-level beauty pageant. Other than that, very little is known about his future bride. – Rappler.com
