Our birthday wish for President Jokowi

JAKARTA, Indonesia – A year ago, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo launched his official Facebook and Twitter accounts to coincide with his 54th birthday.

Today, Tuesday, June 21, Jokowi celebrates his 55th birthday but as Indonesia’s president, his special day is filled with work duties.

The president is scheduled to visit 5 locations today, including Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi, West Java Province.

Jokowi has been quoted as saying he has never celebrated his birthday with a party ever before, only small get-togethers.

“Ever since, there were no parties. Only a small celebration with my wife and children,” said Jokowi.

The man who made furniture before becoming president has also refused gifts sent to him in the past.

This year is the second time in a row Jokowi’s birthday coincides with Ramadan. So there might not be a huge feast and meals throughout the day, but here’s our wish for the president: a simple celebration just the way he likes it.

Perhaps he will blow out some candles on his birthday cake – a martabak from Markobar, the dessert franchise of his eldest son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

Also present will be his wife, Iriana, and their daughter, Ayu Kahiyang. His youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep, who is quite popular on social media, will also be there of course to capture the moment with his smartphone – to be uploaded to his YouTube account which is followed by more than 82,000 people.
