Fattest boy in the world now being treated in gov’t hospital

JAKARTA, Indonesia – Arya Permana, an Indonesian boy whose photos have gone viral on social media due to his heavy weight, was admitted to a government hospital in Bandung, Indonesia on Monday, July 11.

Arya is 10 years old and weighs 140 kilograms (308 lbs). The average weight of kids his age is 39 kg. He is believed to be the fattest boy in the world.

Concerns over his ballooning weight has forced Permana into a crash diet. Due to his weight, he can no longer walk and does not attend school. 

Arya began gaining weight exponentially when he was 8 years old. Fears that he could die has led the parents to seek treatment.

“We realized that he was suffering from a disorder and needed medical attention,” she told media.

Arya’s parents released a statement when their son rose to fame, seeking help and attention from the government as they claimed to be too poor to give their son better medical care.

Both of Arya’s parents work as farmers.

His father had taken him to a local hospital but the doctor was not able to find any medical condition related to the weight gain. He said the doctor just prescribed vitamins.

Netizens also started a campaign to raise money for the boy, which currently has Rp 20,881,096 (USD 1,594) as of July 11.

The local Regent and head of West Java health office welcomed the boy to the hospital where he is being treated. – Rappler.com
