Ex-boyfriend, manager of Indonesian social media star dead at 22
JAKARTA, Indonesia — Oka Mahendra Putra, the ex-boyfriend and manager of Indonesian social media star Karin 'Awkarin' Novilda died on Tuesday, July 18. He was 2 days shy of his 23rd birthday.
Putra was the CEO of Takis Entertainment, a management company whose clients include several other famous young Indonesian celebrities including rapper Young Lex and Instagram star Anya Geraldine.
Awkarin first met Putra last year, after her notoriously public and dramatic breakup with her former boyfriend. Putra helped improve Awkarin's bad girl image by orchestrating several public relations moves, including setting up a meeting between Awkarin and Indonesia's Child Protection Commission, and putting her in a music video with Young Lex.
Not long after, Putra and Awkarin started a short-lived romantic relationship that ended earlier this year.
No official cause has been announced so far, but Putra's death was unexpected since he had no reported illnesses.
His clients and friends have taken to Instagram to express their grief.
