Eric Trump tweets completed ballot against New York law

MANILA, Philippines – While the spirit of the US elections is in full swing, some people are taking to social media to post “ballot selfies,” that is, pictures of their completed ballot.

There’s just one problem: Laws prohibiting such actions are in effect in a good number of US states.

Eric Trump, son of US Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump, may be in trouble for taking the equivalent of a ballot selfie with a short-lived tweet.

The Verge reported Tuesday, November 8, that Eric Trump tweeted out a completed ballot in New York in support of his father.

New York, however, has a law that would make that a misdemeanor.

The 2006 New York Code regarding who can get misdemeanors in relation to the election states that any person who “shows his ballot after it is prepared for voting, to any person so as to reveal the contents” is guilty of a misdemeanor.

While the tweet has already been taken down on Eric Trump’s Twitter page, screenshots of the image are now commonplace, as scrutiny of the elections ramps up leading to the final tally. – Rappler.com
