MANILA, Philippines – Here is a list of schools and areas where classes have been suspended for Friday, July 8, due to heavier monsoon rains triggered by Typhoon Butchoy (Nepartak).

Past noontime on Friday, Malacañang announced the suspension of government work and all classes in public schools beginning 1 pm onwards. The Supreme Court also halted work in all courts in Metro Manila, beginning 1 pm as well.

The Palace said the suspension of work in private schools and companies is left to the discretion of their respective heads.

Meanwhile, below are the suspensions announced by local government units, which cover both public and private schools:

Metro Manila

• Caloocan City – preschool to high school
• Las Piñas City – preschool to high school
• Mandaluyong City – preschool to high school
• City of Manila – preschool to high school
• Makati City – preschool to high school
• Malabon City – all levels 
• Marikina City – preschool to high school
• Muntinlupa City – all levels
• Navotas City – preschool to high school
• Parañaque City – all levels
• Pasay City – all levels 
• Pasig City – all levels
• Pateros – preschool to high school (morning classes)
• Quezon City – preschool to high school
• San Juan City – preschool to high school
• Valenzuela City – preschool to high school

Provinces

• Bataan – all levels
• Batangas – all levels 
• Cavite – all levels
• Obando, Bulacan – preschool to high school
• City of Meycauayan, Bulacan – preschool to high school

Though the typhoon did not make landfall in the Philippines, it is enhancing the southwest monsoon, which is bringing rains to Luzon.
