This is a press release from the Zero in Museum Consortium in partnership with UNESCO Philippines and the Mindanao Association of Museums (MAM).

Calling all Local Government Units (LGUs), cultural organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Mindanao! Join the four-day workshop on Establishing Community Museums in Davao on September 11 to 14, 2014. The workshop, a project of Zero in Museum Consortium in partnership with UNESCO Philippines and the Mindanao Association of Museums (MAM), is designed for institutions interested in setting up their community museums or wish to revitalize existing ones.

The workshop features insightful lectures on museum management best practices, participative and interactive hands-on exercises, and an exposure trip to various museums

Last year’s workshop held at the Ateneo de Manila University drew about a hundred participants representing 50 institutions from all over the country.

At the end of the workshop, participants would have gained specific museum skills and techniques such as: objects acquisition, creating catalog entries, collections care, developing an exhibition concept, writing exhibition labels, creating education programs and activities, and also, marketing and fundraising for the museum.

The workshop is limited to fifty (50) participants. All applications will be evaluated by a screening committee. Interested LGUs, cultural institutions and NGOs are encouraged to send a minimum of two (2) to three (3) representatives. Deadline for application is on July 31, 2014.

The registration fee of P2,500 is inclusive of the workshop kit, manual, meals, and a field trip during the workshop. MAM members will be offered a special discounted rate.
