MANILA, Philippines – Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) announced a voluntarily recall of 20,587 units of Honda CR-V from 2002 to 2004 over a headlight malfunction.
The company found that due to the insufficent length of the electric wire connected to the headlight switch, the wire was being stretched when the cars ran.
The tight wire was causing the terminal wire joint to move, increasing contact resistance, generating heat and melting the wire connecting coupler, which in turn caused the low beam in the headlight to become non-operational.
In a statement, Honda explained that it was prioritizing customer safety although no accidents or injuries have been reported from the malfunction.
The recall is in accordance with Honda’s safety standards even though no specific law in the Philippines requires such an action.
“HCPI is carrying out a proactive market action through the conduct of a voluntary safety recall,” explained Kathleen Joan B. Lanot of HCPI’s Public Relations Group.
Honda will be recalling 9,607 CR-V units from 2002, 9,480 from 2003 and 1,500 from 2004. – Rappler.com
