Smart, Apple tie up to allow users to pay using Smart Money
Smart subscribers can now pay for Apple App store and iTunes content as well as subscribe to Apple music using Smart Money

MANILA, Philippines – Following the global Iaunch of Apple Music, Smart Communications Incorporated (Smart) is bringing the full Apple experience to even more Filipinos through the use of its mobile wallet, Smart Money.

The mobile wallet essentially acts like a bank account in one’s phone, allowing users to make transactions using their devices.

Smart Money can now be used by all Smart Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers to purchase App Store and iTunes content and pay for Apple Music subscription even without a credit card, which has long been a barrier for many Filipino users in maximizing their Apple devices.

Smart subscribers can also use Smart Money to pay bills, remit money, shop online, and reload one’s account on their phone.

Unlocking the full range of Apple content

“With Smart Money, Smart is in the best position to deliver Apple content in the Philippines, allowing mobile users to sidestep the often tedious and stringent process of getting a credit card just to be able to maximize their mobile devices,” said Ariel P. Fermin, Executive Vice President and Consumer Business Group Head at Smart, on July 13.

“Moreover, through Smart Money, Filipinos can truly experience Entertainment Everywhere as they unlock the full range of Apple content at their fingertips – from the millions of other apps, movies, books, and songs available on the App Store and iTunes to the newly launched Apple Music app”, he added.

Smart subscribers can get their Smart Money account number by texting MONEY to 343, then activate it by filling out an online form.

Smart subscribers may also apply for a Smart Money account at any Smart Store with just one valid ID – no financial documents required.

Apple Music

Smart’s tie-up with Apple is timely as it comes on the heels of the California-based firm launching Apple Music.

The new service combines a streaming music service, a worldwide, round-the-clock live radio station, and a new way for music fans to connect with the artists they love.

Touted as the world’s most extensive music catalogue, Apple Music houses over 30 million songs in its library available through on-demand streaming.

Apple Music also allows users to access playlists curated by world-class experts, connect with their favorite artists and tune into a pioneering 24-hour worldwide live radio that plays hits from all over the world.

In the Philippines, Smart subscribers can enjoy Apple Music under a free trial period of three months, after which, the monthly subscription costs $2.99 ( P134.81) for a personal account, or $4.99 (P224.98) for a family account with a maximum of 6 members. – Rappler.com
