Pet Shop Boys to perform at Smart Araneta

MANILA, Philippines – British synth-pop giants Pet Shop Boys visit Manila for the first time to perform at Smart Araneta Coliseum on August 6.

The duo’s concert tour follows on the heels of their widely praised 12th studio album, “Electric,” which finds the Boys – Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe – back in top form in what they do best: sly and swinging dance electronica.

“Electric” marks the duo’s departure from corporate giant Parlophone – the label behind the Beatles down the line to Coldplay and Kylie Minogue – as they carry on, in their own x2 label. The album’s energy complements this transition to independent recording.

“Electric” has garnered critical acclaim by the likes Consequence of Sound and Pitchfork, and has also secured a commercial success that is remarkable for this longtime band, going by its impressive showing on Billboard.

In Manila, Tennant and Lowe will also reprise their hits from more than 20 years of making music.

The Guinness Book of Records cites this multi-awarded duo, architects behind such top UK singles as “West End Girls” and their revamped version of the country ditty, “Always on My Mind,” as the most successful in the history of Brit pop, a distinct, highly influential genre in Western popular music.
