MANILA, Philippines – Multi-awarded singer Sam Smith adds an extraordinary new achievement to his list of career milestones – he’s won an Oscar, with songwriter Jimmy Napes, for Best Original Song. 

The two accepted the award at the 2016 Academy Awards ceremony held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California Sunday night, February 28 (the 29th in Manila). Sam and Jimmy wrote “Writing’s On The Wall,” the featured song in the newest James Bond film, Spectre

Sam used his speech time to dedicate his win to the LGBT community, while also honoring the other nominees. 

“I actually can’t breathe right now,” he said. 

“To all the nominees, you’re incredible. Gaga, you’re incredible.

“I wanna dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world. I stand here tonight as a proud gay man and I hope we can all stand together as equals one day,” he added.
