[WATCH] ‘Star Wars Rebels’: Major villain revealed, and more!

LONDON, UK – A major villain from the Star Wars expanded universe (EU) is making his way to canon! Grand Admiral Thrawn, the imposing figure and one of the most formidable villains in the EU, is making his way to Star Wars Rebels! (READ: ‘Rogue One’: Darth Vader is back and 10 major Star Wars Celebration reveals)

He made his first major debut in the season 3 trailer unveiled at Star Wars Celebration Rebels panel in London Saturday, July 16.

“They’ll be the architects of their own destruction,” says Thrawn in the trailer above.

He will be voiced by Lars Mikkelsen, the brother of Mads Mikkelsen, who also stars in the upcoming Rogue One as Galen Erso, the father of the heroine, Jyn.

The crowd of thousands at the main panel hall at the venue leapt to their feet when Thrawn was unveiled, with the reaction to the trailer overall comparable to the cheers and whoops at the Rogue One panel the day before.

She isn’t going away any time soon, says executive producer Dave Filoni: “It’s likely that you might not have seen the last of Ahsoka Tano.”

Jarrus is still blind after a violent clash with the dastardly Darth Maul. In an exclusive clip played at the panel, Maul traps Jarrus again and tries once more to kill him. Does he survive?

Speaking of Maul, according to Filoni, he is experiencing a more intense “search for a purpose,” though he is most definitely “on the evil side of things.” His interaction with Ezra is most definitely something to watch as he senses Ezra’s conflicting inner turmoil.

Also watch for a new look for Ezra, Jarrus, and Sabine, among others. Star Tiya Sircar actually said at the panel that she did have some input on this look from way back around Season 1. She also has some new tools and gadgets – including the darksaber.

Star Wars Rebels season 3 will premiere on Disney XD this fall.
