‘Wicked’ movie to feature 4 new songs

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Here are a few more reasons to be excited about the upcoming Wicked movie – there’s going to be 4 new songs featured in the film, and one of them was originally cut from the Broadway musical!

On July 21, at CW3PR’S 8th annual “Behind-The-Music: Crime, Death and Resurrection” Panel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Wicked composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz revealed these new details about the movie.

While he didn’t specify which song was an original cut, there is speculation that it will be “Making Good”, a song taken from the play and replaced with “The Wizard and I.”

The Wicked film is set to open in the US on December 20, 2019. The screenplay will be written by Winnie Holzman, who wrote the musical’s book, and the film directed by Stephen Daldry.

Wicked, based on a novel by Gregory Maguire, is an alternate telling of The Wizard of Oz. It follows Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and her life leading up to her encounter with Dorothy and after.

Aside from Wicked, CW3PR’s panel this year also highlighted shows and movies like American Horror Story and Guardians of the Galaxy, with panelists like Jeff Russo, Tyler Bates, and Bill Brown. It was moderated by Violett Beane and Drew Roy.
