Weather-proof beauty

MANILA, Philippines – Appearances…while I have always been (and will always be) one for inner beauty and substance, I have come to accept that how a person presents himself or herself really does count, especially if you’re in a world like mine where how you look and what you wear express your statement for you. It shows others how much you respect yourself and how much you respect them, too.

Others go for polished preppy, some go for mysterious mod and others go for the understated sexy of grunge. Whatever look you go for, no matter how simple or sophisticated, the right tools and makeup are important. They needn’t be expensive; just right for your needs.

Don’t get me wrong; I’m the type who goes au naturel as much as I can. But on occasions when I have to project a certain image or cultivate a certain vibe in a meeting, an event coverage or a get-together with friends, I take great care in presenting myself properly, no matter how simple I choose to go.

Now that it’s the rainy season, I find that this can be a challenge, especially for girls like me who prefer to take public transport. To say that commuting either under extreme heat or rain is stressful is an understatement. 

Here are a list of products I recommend for the ladies, for just the right fresh and natural look, no matter how the weather treats you:

1) A handy, go-anywhere and trusty hair iron you can use to straighten, curl or flip your hair, and a hair gel (yes, gel) that will keep it in place (because, in this weather, mousse may not be enough)

2) An eye palette that’s easy to use even for non-makeup artists, to help keep our peepers alive and bright no matter the time of day

3) A cheek tint that’s also good for the lips so that, even if we travel light, we’ve got our face covered. You may use this even without primer, foundation or face powder, for that out-of-bed-and-already-glowing look.

4) Lipstick with just the right sheen to keep you looking light and fresh. Use this on your eyelids or cheeks if you want to go for a dewy, ethereal look.

As with clothes, it’s not how much or how many you have, but that you have the right stuff for the season or for your use.
