MANILA, Philippines – This September, you won’t have to take a trip abroad to try authentic Singaporean hawker fare – a brand new food market with 12 street food stalls from all over Asia is opening up at SM Megamall.

Makansutra Hawkers will be brought over by Singapore’s Makansutra Pte Ltd, founded by the “Guru of Grub” KF Seetoh, the same company that brought the World Street Food Congress (WSFC) to Manila in April.

The food market will have 12 stalls in total, selling 60 dishes (including some halal dishes) from Singapore, Hong Kong, Malacca in Malaysia, and more.

All the stalls are from different countries abroad, Filipino cooks will assist the hawker chefs. These Filipino cooks were hired from halfway houses and charity homes.

Hong Kong Street Old Chun Kee

Geylang Claypot Rice’s chicken claypot rice (P280  for 1 pax) – slow-cooked to order over wood-fire – is so good, Anthony Bourdain wants it in his New York market, according to KF, who’s helping him out. For a side dish to go with your rice, try the coffee pork ribs (P300).

Sips, Sweets, and Snacks

Aside from street food fare, there’s also drinks and desserts served at a bar in the middle of the hall. There, one can get drinks like Bandung (P90), a rose-flavored Singaporean drink, lemongrass iced tea (P80), or lemon barley (P80).
