Red carpet rundown: MTV Video Music Awards 2014
Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, the Kardashians, and more featured outfits from the red carpet

MANILA, Philippines – Known to be much more relaxed than the other awards shows out there, including the Grammys, the MTV Video Music Awards 2014 red carpet featured a mish-mash of styles, from the kooky to the sleek and sophisticated. (READ: LIST: Winners, MTV Video Music Awards 2014)

Here’s a rundown of this year’s red carpet outfits.

VMA staple and the night’s Michael Jackson Vanguard Award honoree Beyonce was seen in a fiery red gown.

Singer Sam Smith posted a photo of him and Beyonce, with Beyonce wearing a glittery black gown this time.

Miley Cyrus, who later received the Video of the Year award for “Wrecking Ball,” walked down the red carpet in a black leather ensemble by Alexandre Vauthier.

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and new wife, model Behati Prinsloo came down the red carpet in style.

Taylor Swift walked the red carpet in a one-piece romper by Mary Katrantzou, but later changed into a fringed metallic number for her performance of “Shake It Off.”

Thigh-high boots were the key pieces in Ariana Grande‘s outfit.

Meanwhile, continuing her new toned-down series of looks, Nicki Minaj was not to be outdone in her metallic snakeskin-print minidress – no doubt a nod to her song”Anaconda.”

During the VMAs, the camera often panned to Nick Jonas, who arrived with Olivia Culpo. The pair sat next to Demi Lovato, one row above Taylor Swift and Lorde.

Two divas worked dangerously high slits that evening: Rita Ora and Jennifer Lopez. JLo posted this photo of the two of them on her Instagram:

Iggy Azalea was another glamazon, stunning in Versace.

Lorde wore Chanel to the show, and posted this outfit of the day on her Instagram:

Presenter and If I Stay star Chloe Moretz wore Louis Vuitton:

The always cool Gwen Stefani was also there, wearing her own label, LAMB.

And of course, Kim Kardashian was there with younger sisters Kendall and Kylie Jenner

MTV posted a photo of Katy Perry‘s outfit, seen while she was backstage. Nicki Minaj is wearing the all-white ensemble, which matched Usher’s. The two also performed together onstage.

Katy is wearing custom Versace, and the denim outfit is a throwback to another pop star, Britney Spears, who wore a similar denim couple’s outfit with Justin Timberlake back in 2001. Katy was accompanied by Riff-Raff, who also wore denim.

Singer Kelly Rowland was also in attendance.

Beyonce’s sister Solange Knowles walked the red carpet in H&M, but we couldn’t see where exactly she was sitting!

And Jessie J, who performed new song “Bang Bang” with Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande, posted this photo of her and Ariana hugging on Instagram:

Here’s a look at their performance outfits, also via her IG.
