MANILA, Philippines - Born on Facebook, through the page Facebook.com/Move.PH, Rappler was initially introduced to the public through the social media.

Many of our readers and followers found us through stories shared by their friends on their Facebook news feeds or via their Twitter streams. A growing number, however, chanced upon us after keying in search strings on Google.

As Rappler commences its second year on the web, we take you back to the top 12 search terms that lead you to our pages.

Most searchers landed on Rappler when they found its news stories. A look at the search traffic in 2012 reveal, however, that you also found us through such less serious topics as entertainment and sports. Sports stories fill up one-third of the list. Rounding it up are entertainment stories, which, though making up only a quarter of the list, occupied the two top spots.

1. Miss Universe 2012

It all started with the feature on Janine Tugonon, followed by her childhood pictures. As Rappler followed through her journey in the Miss Universe 2012 pageant, interest was high on what she wore during the pageant and Rappler's very own pageant predictions. Visits reached its peak come pageant day when Tugonon was crowned first runner-up.

2. Star Magic Ball 2012

More than knowing what celebrities wore to the ball, searchers wanted to know who took home the awards given at the annual ball.

3. Donaire vs Arce

Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire was named Boxer of the Year by ESPN. This year, Donaire had four matches that he all won and it was his fight with Arce that brought most boxing fans to Rappler.

4. Dolphy Quizon died

Talks about Dolphy passing away were first read on Twitter. So when Rappler broke the news of Dolphy's death after the confirmation from his partner, Zsa-Zsa Padilla, netizens flocked to learn the details of the Comedy King's passing.

5. Palarong Pambansa 2012

Reflective of the web becoming a major source of information, Department of Education's partnership with Rappler on Palarong Pambansa 2012 generated a lot of interest for those who want to monitor their region's performance in the national games.

6. Rolito Go

Rolito Go's escape from the New Bilibid Prison 19 years after his conviction generated a lot of searches. Everyone wanted to know who Rolito Go is and what he was convicted for. Rappler's When Rolito Go killed a student registered the most number of clickthroughs.

The much-awaited match between Pacquiao and Marquez had international and local boxing fans turn to Rappler's Live Blog for blow-by-blow real-time updates on the face off.

8. ADMU vs UST

The game that gave the Ateneo Blue Eagles a five-peat had Ateneo Blue Eagles and UST Growling Tigers fans monitor the game through Rappler.

9. Impeachment corona

During this trial, Rappler got more attention as multimedia reporters delivered relevant updates about the proceedings in video and in text. Rappler's Trial Journal became a go-to page for details of the trial.

10. RH bill debate

The road towards the passage of the bill had Rappler's mood meter turn red with anger with the speech of Sen. Vicente "Tito" Sotto III that revolved around what he believes is the "7 Deadly Sins of the RH Bill", blue with amusement with the amendments made on the RH bill, and finally green with happiness with its passage.

It was Rappler's page on RH debate that searchers went to to keep track of the arguments for and against the bill.

11. Phillip Phillips

Filipinos online were saddened by the results of the Idol finale, when Filipino-Mexican Jessica Sanchez, the country's bet, lost to Phillip Phillips. Hence, the explanatory piece on why Phillip Phillips won American Idol became the most clicked Rappler story on the competition.

With over 27,000 passers, readers were both happy and afraid with the astounding number of new nurses.
