MANILA, Philippines - The Ouya, an Android-powered gaming console, has come out with its release schedule, according to a new report on The Wall Street Journal.
The Wall Street Journal says Ouya crowd-funding backers through Kickstarter will be the first to get the console, followed by pre-order purchasers and a general launch.
Notes Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman in an interview, "March is the unveiling, when Kickstarter backers get their units and Ouya will be live for all our supporters. In April we will be delivering units from people purchasing, and June will be the official launch."
Uhrman adds that the pricing will be the same across the board, with a US$99 console price and a US$49.99 controller price. The controller is an add-on due to the existence of a touchpad inclusive with the Ouya.
Amazon, Gamestop, Target, and Best Buy are all on board for the June launch, and will offer the console at around the same price.
With more than 68,000 orders for the console, either through Kickstarter or pre-orders, the Ouya aims to provide an affordable entertainment experience with both AAA and independent publishers offering gaming content and media companies serving up video and music streaming capabilities through the console. - Rappler.com
