Remember Typhoon Yolanda: Sign up and act #NowPH

MANILA, Philippines – On Sunday, November 8, the world will commemorate the second anniversary of Super Typhoon Yolanda (international codename: Haiyan). 

The monster storm hit Tacloban and the rest of Eastern Visayas in 2013, killing over 6,000 and leaving unimaginable destruction across the region. (READ MORE: IN NUMBERS: 2 years after Typhoon Yolanda)

As climate change worsens, the Philippines is expected to bear the brunt of its effects.

The upcoming COP21 or the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) 21st Conference of Parties, running from November 30 to December 11 in Paris, France, aims “to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate.”

For the Philippines, which has been devastated by typhoons of unprecedented strength like Yolanda, an answer to the problem could not come sooner. Various groups have been promoting climate action and participation in the global conversation.

On Sunday, November 8, #NowPH will be holding the first national day of climate action to remember the lessons from the Yolanda tragedy. 

During the day, tell us how can you help prevent disasters like Yolanda from happening again:

• If you’re a public official, what policies and programs have you implemented to mitigate the impact of climate change?
• If you’re an NGO or company, how are you contributing to climate change adaptation and disaster preparedness? 
• As a concerned citizen or advocate, what can you do to help protect the environment?
