Fil-Am from Las Vegas admits to killing wife

MANILA, Philippines – The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) released a report on Monday, January 13, recounting the confession of Richard Magdayo Dahan, a Filipino-American who said he killed his wife on January 10, and then drove to a police station afterwards to confess.

The LVMPD issued a press release and booking photo on January 11, explaining that Richard, 40, “waited approximately 20 minutes” before he was called up to the counter. Upon being called, Dahan said “he had just committed a crime and killed his wife.”

Police were then sent to his residence in an apartment complex in the 6500 block of Vegas Drive, where they found a woman who died “from what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.”

On January 13, the Las Vegas Sun cited a 3-page report released by the police department, detailing how the killing occurred.

According to the report, Dahan’s wife Daisy had been demanding a divorce after they moved to Las Vegas. Following her latest call for divorce, Dahan, a chef, told police he went to the kitchen where his wife was sitting, then stabbed her in the base of her neck with a serrated knife.

Dahan then grabbed a small meat cleaver after getting the knife tangled in Daisy’s hair, then struck her several times on the top of her head. He then took a fillet knife and stabbed his wife in the abdomen.

Dahan then said he began pacing, trying to figure out what to do next, eventually deciding to get into the shower while clothed, washing the clothes, taking them off, then continuing the shower. He then dressed up and drove his pickup truck 6.5 miles to a police station, where he then confessed.

Dahan and his wife Daisy, 28, met in the Philippines and lived together for 7 months before marrying in October 2011.

An earlier Las Vegas Sun report said their relationship was stressed by a number of factors. Dahan had two children by an ex-girlfriend and according to him, Daisy was jealous of the continued relationship he had with the chldren’s mother. She was reportedly angry when he gave money for the children. Dahan also lost his job as a chef at Mandalay Bay owing to a kidney transplant.

Dahan refused a divorce, saying it was unacceptable as his parents stayed married till his father died. He felt after the latest appeal for a divorce that killing his wife was the last remaining option and said that, if he was able to go back in time, he would do it all over again.

The Clark County District Attorney’s Office had yet to file charges as of this writing. – Rappler.com
