Robredo supporters pay their last respects

NAGA CITY, Philippines – Nagueños, friends and relatives trooped to the Archbishop’s Palace in Naga City on Wednesday, August 22, to pay their respects and say good-bye to their beloved Jesse Robredo, former mayor of the city and Secretary of the Interior and Local Government.

Government officials and members of the Aquino Cabinet arrived to attend the necrological Mass for Robredo and to condole with his family.

Masses will be held daily at 9:00 am and 5:00 pm until Friday, 
August 24, when Robredo’s remains will be flown to Manila for the state funeral to be held at Malacañang Palace.

Robredo died in a plane crash on Saturday, August 18, and his body was recovered Tuesday, August 21, after an intense search for the wreckage in waters close to the Masbate shore. President Benigno Aquino III flew from Manila and fetched Robredo from Masbate to accompany him home to Naga.

Aquino signed Proclamation No. 460, declaring National Days of Mourning starting August 21 until his interment on Tuesday, August 28. The Philippine flag will be flown at half-mast in all government offices in all embassies and consulates abroad.

Communications Undersecretary Manolo Quezon said Robredo’s coffin will be brought from Naga to Malacañang on Friday, August 24, and will be returned to Naga on Sunday, August 26. The late secretary will be buried on Tuesday, August 28, with state honors. – Rappler.com
