DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Five mild earthquakes jolted the province of Surigao del Norte on Wednesday, January 30, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The strongest among these is a magnitude-5.5 earthquake, which struck 104 kilometers northeast of Burgos town.
The other tremors ranged from magnitude-3 to magnitude-4.6.
Phivolcs said a magnitude-3 quake struck 109 kilometers northeast of Burgos town at around 10:06 am.
After 23 minutes, another magnitude-3.3 quake was recorded 98 kilometers northeast of the same town.
At around 8:57 pm, a magnitude-4.2 earthquake was recorded 86 kilometers northeast of Burgos town.
Another magnitude-4.6 earthquake 97 kilometers northeast of the same town followed at around 11:34 pm, Phivolcs said.
No one was reported hurt in the series of earthquakes.
This is not the first time such a series of earthquakes happened in Surigao del Norte. In October last year, for example, 12 earthquakes hit the province within two days. – Rappler.com
