Cement mixer kills 1, injures 7 in Quezon City
MANILA, Philippines - A road accident involving a cement mixer and a jeepney left one woman dead and at least 7 others injured along Araneta Avenue on Tuesday, April 23.
According to dzMM Radio and eyewitness accounts, the cement mixer made a sharp turn at the corner of Del Monte Avenue and Araneta Avenue and fell on its side. Eyewitness said the mixer hit a passenger jeepney and killed a woman who was about to board the vehicle.
Seven other people, including the jeepney driver, were injured. Five of the injured were brought to the East Avenue Medical Center and two were brought to the Philippine Orthopedic Center.
The MMDA diverted traffic from E. Bonifacio street as they tried to lift the mixer, which leaned on one side, pinning the jeepney down.
The southbound lane of Araneta Avenue corner Del Monte Avenue was temporarily closed because of the accident.
The cement mixer, with plate number ZPL-947, is owned by Concrete Mix Specialist Incorporated.
The driver of the mixer is under police custody pending an investigation into the incident. - Rappler.com
