Aquino to present final 2013 LP line-up at Club Filipino

MANILA, Philippines – On the first day of filing of candidacy for the 2013 mid-term elections, President Aquino will announce the final senatorial line-up of the ruling Liberal Party (LP) at the historic Club Filipino.

On Sunday, September 30, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said President Aquino will deliver a speech at around noon before he proclaims who will be on the final senatorial ticket of the LP-led coalition with the Nacionalista Party (NP) and Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).

The event at the Kalayaan Hall of Club Filipino will start at 10 a.m., according to Valte, or earlier at 9 a.m., according to the Office of Sen. Manny Villar, NP president and husband of Las Pinas Rep. Cynthia Villar who is expected to fill one of the 12 slots in the ticket.

LP’s senatorial slate will likely include:

• Las Pinas Rep. Villar (NP)
• Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III (PDP-Laban)
• Sen Alan Peter Cayetano (NP)
• former Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros 
• Aurora Rep. Juan Edgardo Angara (Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, LDP)
• Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chairman Grace Poe Llamanzares
• former Sen. Jamby Madrigal (LP) 
• former Sen Ramon Magsaysay Jr. (LP) 
• former TV host and social entrepreneur Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV (LP) 
• Sen Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV (NP) 
• Senator Francis Escudero, independent

There is one more free slot in the LP’s slate which is reserved for NPC’s Sen Loren Legarda, who will be a guest candidate of the LP-led coalition since her party, NPC, is with the alliance.

Legarda, however, has yet to decide if she will join the administration ticket since she has also been announced as a guest candidate of LP’s rival, the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA).

Pimentel and Legarda have previously announced that they will file their individual Certificate of Candidacy (CoC).

The week-long filing of election certificates starts on Monday, October 1, at the Commission on Elections main office in Intramuros, Manila.

Previously, the following announced they will not join the 2013 race;

• Ruffy Biazon, Customs Commissioner
• Joel Villanueva, Director General of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)
