#CoronaTrial: Day 30 with video highlights
MANILA, Philippines - Here are the highlights of Day 30 of the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona.
2:13 pm: Session starts. Roll call: 18 senator-judges present.
2:18 pm: Rep Aggabas tells court the missing letter of Mrs Cristina Corona has been found and returned to the defense. The other document missing, meanwhile, was with the defense all along.
2:20 pm: Cross examination of Supreme Court employee Araceli Bayuga continues.
The continuation of the cross examination also covers the payroll for allowances and the 2006-2010 Supreme Court alpha list, previously asked for by the court.
2:30 pm: Bayuga is discharged. Session suspended.
2:32 pm: Session resumes. Engr Roberto Villaruz, officer-in-charge of the Taguig City Assessors' Office, takes the witness stand. He is offered to prove accuracy of statements in CJ Corona's SALNs as of 2010.
Witness explains how a property is valued and assessed.
2:50 pm: Senator-judge Ralph Recto helps in explaining the concepts of fair market and assessed values in real estate.
2:55 pm: Villaruz presents documents related to the Taguig properties of the Chief Justice. He also testifies about the assessed and market values of Corona's properties.
3:15 pm: A tax declaration for the McKinley property is under the name of Ma. Charina R. Corona, according to document presented by Villaruz to court.
Senator-judge Miriam Defensor-Santiago reminds defense of shorter method of presenting public documents. "Public records are prima facie evidence. We don’t need to go over this one by one because it will take time."
3:20 pm: Cross examination proceeds. Jose Benjamin Panganiban, private prosecutor, asks questions.
Witness is asked about the tax declarations.
3:30 pm: Senator-judge Aquilino Pimentel III manifests, clarifies issue on the provision of the Local Government Code regarding duties of assessor in the declaration of real properties.
Prosecution also asks if Corona filed declaration of value of property. Villaruz answers, he doesn't know of any.
Senator-judge Ferdinand Marcos Jr asks classificatory questions.
3:52 pm: Cross examination ends. Session suspended.
4:22 pm: Session resumes. Senator-judge Alan Peter Cayetano asks classificatory questions to prosecution and defense panels, specifically about the fair market and assessed values of properties.
Enrile interrupts, says the discussion on property values is irrelevant, and the only material thing is whether the Chief Justice was accurate and faithful in his SALNs.
Clarificatory questions from senator-judges. First up, Senator-judge Panfilo Lacson, followed by Francis Escudero, Ralph Recto, Joker Arroyo.
5:17 pm: Witness is discharged. Next up for direct examination is Rodolfo Ordanes, Quezon City OIC city assessor.
Senator-judge Franklin Drilon interrupts, suggests that since the witness is merely presenting public documents, that the marking be done faster.
Ordanes presents documents related to the Corona properties in Quezon City.
No cross examination from the prosecution. Witness is discharged.
