Protestors smash police car

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Protestors smashed a police car Monday, July 23, as they tried to demolish a barricade that prevented them from getting near the Philippine Congress, where President Benigno Aquino III was delivering his State of the Nation Address. 

Rocks flew in the air as tension mounted between protestors and policemen. People ran in different directions after the incident. 

Almost immediately, the Philippine Red Cross station treated 3 persons. Two of them were civilians with lacerations on their legs while the other was a policeman, whose legs were injured as well.

According to Renato Reyes, Bayan secretary-general, initial estimates show those injured were at least 95, with mostly head trauma and defensive wounds. He said most of the wounded were students, and 11 were rushed to East Avenue Medical Center for head injury treatment. – with reports from Nathan Gatpandan and Emil Mercado/Rappler.com
