Typhoon Marilyn to veer away from Philippine landmass
The storm is spotted 1,000 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora at 4 pm on Monday, November 23

MANILA, Philippines – A new typhoon within the Philippine Area of Responsibility is expected to make a curve away from the Philippine landmass, said the state weather bureau on Monday, November 23.

Typhoon Marilyn (international name In-fa) was spotted 1,000 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora at 4 pm on Monday, said the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

It was packing maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h with gusts of up to 185 km/h.

Weather forecasters predict, however, that Marilyn will veer towards the northwest before making landfall in the Philippines. As of 4 pm, it was moving in this direction at a speed of 11 km/h. It may be outside the PAR by Friday, November 27.

The typhoon cannot yet be felt anywhere in the Philippines. But PAGASA forecasts light to moderate rains and some thunderstorms in Eastern Visayas on Tuesday, November 24.

Isolated light rains, meanwhile, are expected over Cagayan and Batanes provinces.

The rest of the country may have isolated rains and thunderstorms on Tuesday.

The entire archipelago should brace for moderate to strong winds from the northeast. This means ocean waters all over the country will be moderate to rough. – Rappler.com
