MANILA, Philippines - Moderate to heavy rain is in the forecast for Visayas and Mindanao on Thursday, January 3, as a low pressure area affects the area.

The LPA was in the vicinity of Sta Josefa, Agusan del Sur (8.0°N, 126.0°E) as of 2 am, bringing cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rain or thunderstorms in the said areas.

Flashfloods and landslides are possible, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The northeast monsoon, on the other hand, still continues to affect northern Luzon, the bureau said.

Bicol, Mimaropa, Calabarzon and Metro Manila will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rain, while Cagayan Valley and Aurora will have light rain.

The rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy skies with brief rain or thunderstorms, the bureau added.
