MANILA, Philippines – According to multiple sources, the Denver Nuggets fired their head coach Brian Shaw on Wednesday, March 4 (PH time).

The Denver Post’s Chris Dempsey was first to report the development.

Shaw was let go after lasting just a little under two regular seasons with the team. He was expected to lead Denver back to the NBA playoffs after the franchise let go of former Coach of the Year George Karl in 2013, but failed throughout his tenure.

Denver, which currently has a 20-39 record and is 13th in the Western Conference, is a sure lock to miss the playoffs for a second straight year. Shaw will end his time with the Nuggets – his first career coaching gig after multiple successful assistant coaching stops – with a total 56-85 record.

Other than coming up with underwhelming schemes for Denver on both sides of the floor, Shaw reportedly was unable to maintain control of his locker room. A few days back, members of the Nuggets reportedly chanted “1, 2, 3, six” during their in-game huddles, referring to the amount of weeks left before the season ended.

Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Assistant Coach Melvin Hunt will take over interim duties.

Shaw, 48, was once highly touted and promoted by his former colleagues in Indiana and Los Angeles (Lakers), where he worked as an assistant coach under Phil Jackson and Frank Vogel.
