Walker, Lanete lead NLEX past GlobalPort in blowout

MANILA, Philippines – Strong games from import Henry Walker and rookie Garvo Lanete lifted the NLEX Road Warriors in their one-sided victory over the GlobalPort Batang Pier, 114-98, on Friday, September 9, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Walker finished with 35 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks, while Lanete registered a career-high with 25 points off the bench on 8-of-14 shooting. The Road Warriors had 3 other players score in double-figures, including 14 by Jonas Villanueva.

The win was the second in a row for NLEX, which moved up to a 5-5 record with a game remaining on its elimination round schedule. GlobalPort, meanwhile, dropped to 3-6 and fell out of the Governors’ Cup playoff chase.

It was in the third quarter where the Road Warriors pulled away for the win by outscoring the Batang Pier, 37-20. Overall, NLEX shot 47% from the field, including 14-of-37 from long range.

Stanley Pringle led the Batang Pier with 27 points and 7 assists, while Terrence Romeo finished with 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 dimes. Import Michael Glover scored 21 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.
