LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – The records just keep coming.
Maureen Emily Schrijvers, 16, broke the Palarong Pambansa record on her 6th visit to the national games.
Schrijvers posted a new record for the secondary girls high jump by jumping 1.62m on her 3rd try, shattering the old record of 1.61m by Maria Felice Ellaga from Cordillera Region in 2008.
“Lagi po sinasabi ng coach ko, ‘di naman po namin habol yung place, habol namin yung time. Magandang time. Performance po (My coach always tells me, we’re not after the placing, we’re after the time. As long as the performance is good),” Schrijvers said.
This is the 2nd gold for the NCR Belgian-Chinese athlete who also took home the gold in the 100m dash.
Schrijvers is also the record-holder of the elementary girls 200m dash, a record she made in the Palawan games in 2008 when she was in grade 6. The record is 24.5 seconds.
Other records
Lorenzo Lapazo of Western Visayas also matched the high jump secondary boys record when he cleared 1.90m, the 2002 record posted by Paulo Martinez of Southern Tagalog.
In elementary boys, another new record — this time for javelin throw.
