Rappler, DepEd sign 2014 Palarong Pambansa memorandum
Rappler and the Department of Education partner for the third consecutive year for the coverage of Palarong Pambansa

MANILA, Philippines – Rappler and the Department of Education signed the memorandum of agreement Wednesday, April 30 to partner on coverage of Palarong Pambansa for the third consecutive year.

Representing Rappler were managing editor Glenda Gloria, sports editor Ryan Songalia and multimedia producer Rodneil Quiteles at the Department of Education headquarters in Pasig, while Department of Education was represented by Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali.

“It’s always been a pleasure to be a partner of the Department of Education,” said Glenda Gloria. “This is our third year and we’ve had a very successful partnership last year. We hope to continue that with our coverage this year.”

“Every time we do MOA signings like this, I can’t help but remember how we all started,” began Umali. “Rappler first was invited to be present during the 2011 Palarong Pambansa. The following year we started talking to the Rappler team who were represented by Ms. Maria Ressa and then talk about how the coverage should be done.

“It was kind of historic because for the first time Palarong Pambansa was covered in all events. We have real time updates on all results, it’s being delivered not only in the Philippines but also worldwide because it’s on the web. Everybody, even my friends who are in the United States were able to text me and say ‘Napaganda ang Palarong Pambansa.’ That’s why we are very happy that we are partnered with Rappler for the third year.

“What really strikes me is the way that Rappler focused on the background of our athletes.”

The 57th Palarong Pambansa will take place from May 4-10, featuring athletes from 17 regions competing in 20 events. – Rappler.com
