Samsung takes on Apple, tech pundits in new ads
Both Samsung USA and Samsung Korea respond to Apple's recent iPhone announcements with their own scathing advertisements

MANILA, Philippines – In a new assault against its rival Apple, Samsung USA released an ad on Saturday, September 13, that is supposed to be more forgiving against its competitor, but still hit hard.

Last September 9 (September 10, Philippine time), just as Apple announced its new iPhones – the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus – Samsung immediately posted to Twitter a quote from Steve Jobs saying “No one is going to buy a big phone.”

The company bit back with a single quip: “Guess who surprised themselves and changed their minds.”

A day after, Samsung released 6 connected video ads. The advertisements highlighted how the ‘next big thing’ was already here –  in the form of the Galaxy Note 4 phablet and the Galaxy Gear S smartwatch.

Samsung USA distanced itself from the ads saying it was produced by Samsung Korea and is not part of the US marketing campaign.

Samsung USA, for its part, came out on Sunday, September 14, with its own advertisement pointed towards early reviews of the Note devices.

The Wall Street Journal and Mashable were made examples of as the narrator recalled those past reviews, saying that the Note looks “like you’re talking to a piece of toast” and that it “is an unwieldy beast.”

It also talked about how the Note is not just a gimmick but a practical tool that can help anyone who uses it.

The ads reverted back to taking jabs, however, showing tweets of people saying how the latest iPhones are not that big of a deal. – Rappler.com
