Husband slashes wife’s neck after she refused to make coffee

JAKARTA, Indonesia – A man slashed his wife’s neck after she refused to make him coffee, according to local reports.

The incident took place on Wednesday, on the evening of May 18 in West Lampung. Misrin, 31 – who like many Indonesians go by one name – reportedly slashed the neck of his 27-year-old wife Eli Setiawati, killing her.

Neighbors reportedly heard the commotion from their home, and news of the two having a fight reached Misrin’s older brother, Johan, 47, who came to his brother’s house. 

By the time Johan arrived, he found his sister-in-law dead, her head almost completely severed from her body. 

Police officer Efendi said the base of the problem was Misrin’s annoyance.

“The suspect was cursing her with inappropriate words,” Efendi was quoted as saying on Thursday, a day after the killing.

“The victim escaped but was chased by the suspect to the well behind the house. Then the victim was stabbed in the neck until she died,” he said.

He also said the police confiscated a machete and could face up to 15 years in prison. Misrin has been arrested.

Nilawati, the Medical Officer at Lambukibang, described the condition at which they received the victims body.

“The wound was from the back of the neck towards the front. All the organs of her neck were cut off, from the back to the neck bone. The neck skin in the front was still left,” he said.

The couple has 3 children together.

Dr. Seto Mulyadi, chairman of the National Commission for Child Protection (Komnas PA), said he plans to visit the family of the victims to ensure the children will be cared for accordingly after the death of their mother. – Rappler.com
