DOCUMENT: Sara Duterte’s sworn report vs Midas Marquez

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Before Court Administrator Midas Marquez was interviewed by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) for the post of Supreme Court associate justice on Wednesday, September 26, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio already expressed her opposition to his application. 

A week before the JBC interview, Carpio gave a preview of her opposition, saying in a statement that an SC aspirant – whom she did not name then – wanted to curry her favor to get a seat in the High Court.

In her sworn report submitted to the JBC on September 21, Carpio accused Marquez of influence-peddling.

When asked during his JBC interview about a certain Gemma Sotto who tried to intercede in his behalf, Marquez said, ““I am so rest assured with my qualifications, my credentials, my track record that for me, these qualifications will stand on their own merit. But I cannot tell all these well-meaning friends that no, I do not need your help.”
