MANILA, Philippines – While no storm has been sighted within the Philippine Area of Responsibility, the state weather bureau PAGASA said cloudy skies and brief rainshowers are expected in several regions on the eve of the Chinese New Year.
In its 5 am forecast on Saturday, February 9, PAGASA said Batanes and the Calayan Group of Islands are expected to experience cloudy skies with light rains throughout the day.
In its 11 am bulletin, PAGASA said Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy, with isolated rainshowers Saturday and Sunday. Winds will be “moderate to strong northeasterlies with moderate to rough seas,” the forecast said.
Cloudy skies and isolated rain showers are also expected in:
- Bicol
- Eastern Visayas
- Caraga
- Davao
“Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Northeast will prevail over Luzon, Eastern Visayas and Mindanao and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the Northeast with slight to moderate seas,” PAGASA said.
Strong gale force winds, however, are expected in the Eastern seaboard of Northern Luzon. This means these places will experience rough to very rough seas with 3.4 to 4.5 meters of waves.
These places are:
- Batanes
- Calayan
- Babuyan
- Northern coast of Cagayan
- Coast of Ilocos Norte
- La Union
- Pangasinan
- Ilocos Sur
“Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” PAGASA advised. – Rappler.com
