The DLSU Lady Archers continue their dominant start with another straight-set whipping, this time of the UST Tigresses

MANILA, Philippines – The De La Salle University Lady Archers turned what was tagged as this year’s Finals preview into a rout as they trampled the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses, 25-8, 27-25, 25-13, in the 76th UAAP Women’s Volleyball tournament Sunday, December 8 at The Arena in San Juan City.

The three-time defending champions made short work of the Espana-based side as they leaned on stellar performances from skippers Abi Marano, Cyd Demecillo, and Ara Galang to extend their UAAP winning streak since last season to 18 games and occupy the top spot in the standings alongside National University at 2-0.

The Lady Archers caught UST flatfooted in the early goings as they easily took the opening set, 15-2 – highlighted by 12 unanswered points – that set the tone for the rest of the match.

The Tigresses fought back in the second frame as they took on La Salle to a battle of runs to take set point at 26-24. The Tigresses however withered down at the worst time possible as Jem Gutierrez committed a throbbing service error to hand the set to the Lady Archers, 27-25.

La Salle then showed their championship form as they erected double-digit leads in the third set, scoring 10 unanswered points to finish off UST, 25-13.

Marano topscored in the game with 14 points as Demecillo and Galang finished with 12 and 10. Tunay led UST’s losing cause with 10 points.

The Lady Archers stayed perfect so far this season at 2-0, without conceding a single set, while UST dropped to 1-1.

La Salle will face fellow unbeaten team NU Bulldogs on Wednesday, December 11, with University of the Philippines and Far Eastern University squaring off in the curtain-raiser. – Rappler.com
