Two records fall as NCR rules last day of Palaro swimming
Only three swimmers outside of the Capital Region were able to cop golds on the last day of swimming meets, as NCR dominated the pool

LAGUNA, Philippines – Tankers from the National Capital Region flexed their muscles in the swimming competitions anew as they notched nine of the 12 gold medals at stake on Friday, May 9, at the Laguna Sports Complex aquatics center in Sta. Cruz.

NCR’s Orlando Luis Reyes, Seth Martin, Michael Pinpin, and Emilio Viovicente broke their own record in the preliminaries this morning as they clocked in 4:09.15, almost 17 seconds ahead of second placer Western Visayas, comprised of Regan Garbanzos, Thim Concon, Brendan Tugbang, and Moses Bito-Onon, to take the Boys 12 and under 400 Meter Freestyle Elementary Relay Gold medal.

High school bets from the Big City also put up a record-breaking performance as Miguel Barlisan, Alnair Guevarra, Eman Dapat, and Maurice Illustre reset the four-year old Palarong Pambansa record of 3:43.83 set in Tarlac in 2010, finishing the Boys 13-17 400 Meter Freestyle Secondary Relay at 3:43.68 to win the gold medal.

NCR’s girls squad in the Relay events also shone as Charize Esmero, Alexsies De Leon, Milcah Terese Mina, and Jules Ong won the gold in Girls 12 and under 400 Meter Free Elementary Relay with a clocking of 4:32:44 while their secondary counterparts comprised of Paula Cayanan, Precilla Aquino, Christine Mendoza, and Carmenrose Matabuena finished the 400 Meter Freestyle Relay in 4:14.30 to also bag themselves a gold medal.

Illustre also doubled his day’s gold medal haul with a win in Boys 13-17 Secondary 200 Meter Freestyle as Christine Mendoza completed NCR’s medal output with a gold medal in Girls 13-17 200 Meter Freestyle.

Only three swimmers outside NCR pocketed gold today with Martin Jose Sayson of Central Visayas winning the Boys 12 and under 100 Meter Breaststroke, Calabarzon’s Bela Magtibay ruling the Girls 12 and under 100 Meter Breaststroke and Raine Teope of Central Luzon winning the Girls 13-17 100 Meter Breastroke. – Rappler.com
