MANILA, Philippines – It’s been 37 years since the world first became enthralled with the saga from “a galaxy far, far away.” Since then, Star Wars has influenced not only science fiction but pop culture as well.
After 6 films, numerous books, computer and video games, comic books and an animated TV series, the force is as strong as ever in this media franchise.
With anticipation growing over the seventh installment of the film series, especially with the recent news that some of the leads from the original movie will be reprising their roles in the new movie slated for release in December 2015 (read 'Star Wars: Episode VII': The cast revealed!), Star Wars mania is still a force to be reckoned with.
It even has its own holiday.
May the 4th (a date chosen because it is reminiscent of the iconic line, “may the force be with you”) marks the International Star Wars Day— an unofficial holiday for fans around the globe to pay homage to all things Star Wars.
Get a chance to celebrate with fellow fans and enthusiasts with a series of out-of-this-world events, toys and collectibles selling, parades, exhibits and a whole lot more are happening this month at Resorts World Manila to mark Star Wars Day.
Die-hard followers of the franchise will have a chance to be a part of this celebration and put their knowledge of Star Wars trivia to the test. You can even win prizes in the process.
Check out some trivia of the movie and its characters. Do you know each of them already?
1. Famous Hollywood actors turned down roles in the movie franchise. Sissy Spacek and Jodie Foster declined the role of Princess Leia, and Al Pacino, Christopher Walken and Sylvester Stallone turned down the chance to play Han Solo.
2. The actors who played C-3PO and R2-D2, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker, are the only actors who are playing the same role in all seven Star Wars films.
3. Star Wars IV: A New Hope was the only film in the franchise that was nominated for Best Picture in the Academy Awards. It lost to Woody Allen’s Annie Hall.

It’s not every day you get a chance to see Storm Troopers on parade in the flesh, or to take a selfie with the Dark Lord himself.
