Know what you’re gonna be this Halloween yet?
On the off chance that you haven’t decided who or what you’re going to dress up as, here’s something to keep in mind: millions of Halloween costumes in the UK alone merely end up in the trash each year after one use, according to the Hubbub Foundation.
This results in over 2000 metric tons of plastic waste, which equates to 83 million Coca-Cola bottles.
Dressing up is fun, but remember your old witch costume from years back? It’s most likely stuck in a landfill or waterway right now – and probably will be, for years to come.
The same goes for cheap Halloween decor, which are often too flimsy to make it through next year’s celebrations.
But all of this doesn’t mean that you’ll have to skip out on all the Halloween festivities.
The Hubbub Foundation suggests swapping costumes with friends and re-wearing the previous year’s costume. But in case the idea of repeating outfits spooks you out, you can also try thrifting, or even DIY.
Instead of using store-bought costumes, get crafty and use these items to create your own costume. Bonus: you won’t have the same cookie-cutter costume as somebody else.
