Why Piolo Pascual is not afraid of the future
MANILA, Philippines – You may have caught it last week: a video of Piolo Pascual hamming it up with a 16-year old kid sporting an American accent. That’s Iñigo Pascual, and he’s the one who gets to call Piolo “dad.”
It’s a little jarring, admittedly – to realize that Piolo’s son is now a bona fide teenager, and is even considering following his father’s footsteps.
And then, we realize that Piolo, indeed, has been around for quite a while.
In local showbiz, stars come and go. Fame is a monster that seizes, and then spits. But here is Piolo – one of the lucky few who have dodged the bad stuff with aplomb. He has never really stepped out of the limelight; he has never wanted for work, and his charm to the masses is perennially bankable. But all the time, we see other celebrities aging, losing their glow, and eventually fading into obscurity. What if Piolo is up next?
Guess what – Piolo is not worried. Whatever happens, he is already prepared.
In this exclusive Rappler video, Piolo, along with his son, Iñigo, talk about the future: their fears, their dreams, and how they’re preparing for it.
Work is never permanent, even for a big star like him. His strategy has always been to strike while the iron is hot, so he can have enough to spend, save, and invest. Through the years, he’s learned that it’s OK to spend, as long he stays practical. Now, he wants to pass on this life lesson to his only son.
“I cannot wait for the time that I get my life back,” Piolo said. “I’m not saying I’m not grateful, but this doesn’t define me. I’m not getting any younger and I still want to take on other things.” He acknowledges that having enough will be necessary to fulfill his goal of being a better father to Iñigo. "One of the reasons why I wanted to retire early is because I wanted to spend more time with him.”
For his part, Iñigo is bent on following his father’s footsteps – on and off the camera. “He’s been a big influence on what I know to do… he’s always there for me when I need him. I want to be like him someday,” Iñigo said. – Rappler.com
