Handwashing hubs, sinks, and soap: Safeguard’s #SafeWash initiatives over the years
Here’s how the company has been sustaining its commitment to making proper handwashing accessible for Filipinos

As part of its #SafeWash campaign, Safeguard has partnered with the Manila Water Foundation to construct public handwashing facilities around Metro Manila.

These handwashing facilities are currently being built in public health centers, gymnasiums, markets, and transport terminals in key areas, including Pasig City, Marikina City, San Juan City, Mandaluyong City, Taguig City, and the municipality of Pateros.

In October, two hubs in Marikina City, located at the Marikina Sports Center, were turned over to the city’s local government unit. A facility in Pasig City has also been inaugurated.

This effort is part of the brand’s commitment to ensure that Filipinos’ knowledge of proper handwashing practices is complemented by the accessibility of tools needed for hand hygiene.

But did you know that Safeguard has been actively pioneering #SafeWash initiatives for years now?

Let’s look back at the various initiatives Safeguard has conducted:

Sink construction project

In 2019, Procter and Gamble – Safeguard Philippines’ parent company – and Manila Water Foundation teamed up to provide sinks to students.

Through this collaboration, handwashing facilities in 32 public schools nationwide have now been constructed. 50,000 students in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao, and Zamboanga have benefited from this initiative.

Safeguard soap in malls

In partnership with SM Supermalls, Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, and WalterMart, Safeguard also handed over Safeguard soaps to various malls nationwide.

Hand hygiene education for delivery riders

Recognizing the pivotal role of delivery nowadays, Safeguard also partnered with Shopee to ensure that delivery riders are knowledgeable about proper hand hygiene practices.

The company has provided 6,000 riders of the Shopee Express fleet with Safeguard hand sanitizers.

Safeguard continues to create initiatives for a #SafePhilippines

After the  #SafeWash movement’s success, Safeguard remains committed to creating a SAFE Philippines through various initiatives for all Filipinos, from students to delivery riders.

According to Gian Yap, Brand Director of Safeguard Philippines, P&G, “It is our responsibility to help safeguard the health of every Filipino, particularly through handwashing. With the right resources and the right soap, we aim to help curb improper handwashing in the Philippines.”

As businesses worldwide reopen and quarantine restrictions ease up, the company continues to help build a safer Philippines by educating Filipinos on proper hand hygiene practices and providing handwashing facilities.

Everyone is encouraged to participate in Safeguard’s #SafeWash campaign. For more information on this movement and how you can help, you can visit their Facebook page. – Rappler.com
