Press release: In partnership with three humanitarian organizations, the Australian government continues Yolanda recovery work in Tacloban City and Palo in Leyte

This is a press release from the Australian Embassy in the Philippines

MANILA, Philippines – The Australian Government will be handing over 1,533 shelters to families affected by the November 2013 supertyphoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

The construction of the shelters was made possible through funding assistance provided by Australia through three implementing partners: the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Gawad Kalinga (GK), and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), in coordination with respective local government units in Leyte.

The three projects helped provide shelter, water and sanitation, livelihood and community development to communities in the Municipality of Palo and in Tacloban City.

Australia provided up to AUD5 Million (PHP200 Million) to support emergency and transitional shelter, as well as shelter recovery programs for those affected by Typhoon Yolanda. This is part of the AUD77 million (PHP3 Billion) assistance provided for immediate humanitarian assistance and recovery efforts. – Rappler.com
