#1000ChallengePH: Show off your baby pictures and save children
Save the Children aims to raise P1 million for its malnutrition treatment program by encouraging 1,000 Facebook users to donate P1,000 each

This is an announcement from Save the Children.

MANILA, Philippines – We want your baby pictures.

Show off your cuteness and support a cause. Save the Children, a child rights organization, is challenging Facebook users to raise a total of P1 million to help Filipino babies and children fight malnutrition.

How? The first step is to use your baby photo as your Facebook profile picture.

Launched on July 12, Save the Children’s #1000ChallengePH aims to encourage 1,000 people to donate P1,000 each within the next 1,000 hours or 41 days. By August 23, Save the Children hopes to reach its target, or even more.

The challenge is to show off your cutest baby picture, in the hopes of raising funds for the organization’s acute malnutrition treatment program.

Once you change your FB profile picture, you’re pledging to make an online donation of at least P1,000 to Save the Children’s nutrition program.

The next challenge is for you to create a ripple effect – the more friends you encourage to participate in the #1000ChallengePH, the more babies we can save.

Why 1,000?

The Philippines is dubbed as the “social media capital of the world.” In fact, there are around 47 million Filipino Facebook users.

Just imagine what these millions of FB users can do together.

Save the Children’s #1000ChallengePH raises awareness on the importance of a child’s first 1,000 days of life, which is considered as the “golden window of opportunity.”

Good nutrition during this period secures a child’s physical and cognitive development. When babies lack proper nutrition, their futures are put at risk. Why? Because malnutrition among babies and children leaves impacts lasting until adulthood.

What does this mean? Malnourished babies, if left untreated, will suffer for the rest of their lives. At worst, these babies might not even reach their 5th birthday.

The funds raised will be used to support Save the Children’s Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition program, which treats malnutrition among babies. The program also promotes maternal and infant health.

It’s the first of its kind in the National Capital Region and was piloted in a community of informal settlers in Navotas City in March 2016.

With your help, Save the Children aims to expand the program across other parts of the Philippines.

Good nutrition during the child’s first 1,000 days (from conception to a child’s second birthday) is crucial to a child’s cognitive and physical development.
