Vans presents 3rd Annual Invitational Classic Single Fin Longboard Contest

MANILA, Philippines – Vans Philippines together with the local brand Coast Thru Life is excited to announce this year’s third annual Coast Thru Life Single & Unattached – an invitational classic single fin longboard contest and an off the wall beach concert  presented by Vans Philippines and sanctioned by the Asian Surfing Championships (ASC).

The two day surf competition will happen on February 20 and 21 at the cozy little small town we all love San Juan Beach, La Union, one of the closest surf spot in the capital city of Manila. Top international and local traditional longboard surfers will be traveling to the country’s one and only classic single fin longboarding competition where surfers paddle thru a single fin logs and leg ropes unattached. 

Stylish footwork, nasal perching, meniscus tearing drop knees, and simply having a blast with other log loving mates is what you can expect from the participants  of the Men’s Invitational, Women’s Invitational, and Tiny Toes Invitational. Winners of this event will receive cash prizes amounting to $2,000 USD plus goods from different partners of the event and (of course) bragging rights as one of the champs of the Vans Coast Thru Life 3^rd Single and Unattached.  

The ASC is proudly bringing ASC’s Head Judge Steve “Monty” Montell who will be spearheading the 2015 Vans CTL Single & Unattached judges, is very excited saying, “I’ve heard only good things about La Union and am really looking forward to seeing it for myself, and being able to judge a logging event too, well that’s perfect! Logging events seem to make it easy to embrace the ‘Fun of Surfing,’ so again I’m stoked and can’t wait to be part of the Vans Coast Thru Life Single & Unattached event.”

Montell is based in Bali, Indonesia and has been involved in judging ASC events and other longboard competitions for years.  

“Single & Unattached is running on its third year now, and like last year it’s going to be an ASC sanctioned event. They’re bringing in their technical expertise in running international surf competitions and providing premium photo and video coverage, while flying Monte in to be this year’s head judge, so it will be incredible.” said Buji Libarnes, Vans Philippines’ surf rider and founder of Coast Thru Life. He is thrilled to be having ASC for the third time and is grateful to be working with Montell.

Coast Thru Life is a homegrown brand with the hopes to share the passion and beauty for classic long boarding. “In a country which focused mainly on the highly progressive side of surfing for the past decade or two, we thought it was high time to have an event that features the other facet of surfing and pay homage to the art (and joy) of traditional long boarding. Off the Wall Beach Concert

On the eve of the 21^st of February, Vans CTL Single & Unattached will be capping off with a massive concert and Off the Wall beach party with live performances from the nation’s finest artists, bands, and DJ. Among the great lineup are Coffee Break Island, Flippin Soul Stompers, Brigada, Rod Mijares Combo, Pingkaw, DJ Skratchmark, and Miss Teaze.  And it’s all for FREE.

Kick Off Party

Get set for a warm up party of the Vans CTL Single & Unattached on February 17, 2015, 9 pm at Coast Thru Life boutique in Cubao X. Live performances by Frencheska Farr, one of Vans’ brand ambassadors, and other local bands. There will also be another preview of the first ever Filipino surf film “Archipelago” that features top local surfers in different surf spots in the country. Tons of exciting giveaways will also be given during the event so don’t you miss it.
